“We are overwhelmed with information – we live in a world of excess access. We have more information available to us than we will ever know what to do with. The real challenge on being successful is not so much a function of how much you can retain – so much as what are the very few things you must never forget.” - Marcus Buckingham
♦ What is the Role of an MPIGNY President, President-Elect, and Immediate Past President? The One Thing You Need To Know About Leading: Great leaders in MPIGNY “Discover what is universally true about our Chapter and capitalize on it. The role of a great leader is to rally teams to the bigger vision (using the vision as the place to start).” Great managers discover what is unique about a person and capitalize on it – great leaders do the inverse. A truly effective leader will not deny that we all are different – but rather focus on the greater truth that while we are different – we share a great deal and at the same time strategically focus on the path that takes our differences to success.
-
They are: First – Leaders, then they are Strategists, Visionaries, Facilitators, Communicators, Innovators, Motivators, and they are Empowering and they must “Trust”.
-
What are they LEADING? The overall Chapter vision (found in the Strategic Plan) of the Board of Directors (the strategic vision - not the people)
Who Do They Report To? President: The Members; President-Elect: The Members & The President; Immediate Past President: The Members & The President
Autonomy: MPIGNY encourages it's volunteers to have full autonomy for the work they and their teams are responsible for. However, they are encouraged to seek necessary approvals from the volunteer they report to on the Chapter Organizational Chart (as identified by their immediate supervisor or by the Chapter Budget Policies).
♦ What is the Role of an MPIGNY Vice President? Much in the same way that the President, President-Elect and Immediate Past President are focused on discovering what is universal and capitalizing on it, the Vice President’s expertise is similar in that they are committed to the overall vision of the association, but they are also asked to take that same skill and focus it on their individual clusters. Working in concert with their Directors, they are responsible for a full understanding of the vision for their cluster (found in the Strategic Plan) and then to empower the their Director(s) to develop & implement that vision through action plans developed with their Chairs/Co-Chairs in their cluster.

♦ What is the Role of an MPIGNY Director?
The One Thing You Need To Know About Managing: Great managers in MPIGNY, “Discover what is unique about each person and capitalize on it.” The primary role of a great manager is to turn a persons’ talent into performance. Working in concert with their Chairs/Co-Chairs, they are responsible for developing the action plans for their committees and then empower the Chairs/Co-Chairs to execute those actions with their Committee members.

-
They are: First – Facilitators, then they are Communicators, Motivators, Delegators, and they are sometimes Executors.

♦ The One Thing You Need To Know About Sustained Organizational Success ♦ Understand the difference between Leaders (Exec), Managers (Directors), Facilitators (Chairs/Co-Chairs) & Executors (Committee Members). The responsibilities are different and the starting points are different. The talents required to excel at each are different, yet all are part of the fabric of our success as we collectively work toward our primary goal of “meeting & exceeding the needs of every single MPIGNY member.”
[These role philosophies were developed from concepts and teachings found in the book, “The One Thing You Need To Know”, written by author, business coach & social sciences expert, Marcus Buckingham.]
